A 1\/4\" to 1\/2\", depending on whether you use the rubber insert or not.  When installing our footpegs we do not use the OEM spring or hole. The spring is zip-tied onto the mount in the orientation it is installed. This can happen with welded-on mounts but usually not with such large tolerance changes. We have adjusted our design to account for this with a more forgiving tolerance fitment. Once you feel it bottom out, stop tightening and visually inspect to make sure the nylon in the nut has engaged with the last couple of threads on the spindle.
