An intercooler is not a power-adder. It doesn't automatically mean more power, but while a larger intercooler usually means more efficient and cooler air, an immediate jump in power is negligible if the engine is not re-tuned for this change. Lag would also be introduced to the system since the turbocharger is moving more air - how much, again, depends on the overall setup. Either way, gaining horsepower, especially in high power builds, requires a good flowing intercooler, so it's a crucial piece. Since these are cores, you have the option for inlet and outlet sizing as well as end tank sizing. That will be a very big determining factor for what your intercooler will do to your setup.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\r\n\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBigger doesn't always mean better. If you choose an intercooler that is too big, your turbo won't properly keep up and you can reduce throttle response and increase lag. If it's too small, you end up choking your system causing a loss of power. Be sure you know what size will be optimal for your setup!\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eWill I need to re-tune my car after installing one of the BOOST intercoolers?\u003c\/h3\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eThis really depends on your setup and power goals. Usually, you wouldn't need to re-tune anything if the size of your intercooler is not changing much or at all. If you are, however, upgrading your intercooler size, a re-tune would be wise. Since you are changing the air flow capacity and air temperatures of the system, there are changes to be made to your tune tables to maximize this potential. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eAre these intercoolers direct-fit?\u003c\/h3\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eThese are bare cores, so not only will you have to figure out mounting solutions for your setup, but your end tanks as well. A nice bonus is that these cores work with any end tank, but we sell ones that match perfectly with these cores. We have plenty of sizing options available depending on your power goals, but these intercoolers do not come with any mounting hardware, end tanks, bracketry or anything - you are just getting a bare core. So consider this when purchasing a BOOST intercooler core.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eWhy we chose the Tube-and-Fin core structure\u003c\/h3\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eThere are two styles of intercooler designs - \u003cb\u003eBar-and-Plate\u003c\/b\u003e and \u003cb\u003eTube-and-Fin\u003c\/b\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\r\n\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBar-and-plate intercoolers prioritized using weight and mass to be strong, durable and handle high boost pressures. It's main advantage is a high resistance to heat-soaking, great heat transfer qualities, and an increased thermal mass. But, they were heavy and did not promote the best airflow. Tube-and-fin intercoolers are much lighter, less expensive to make and don't hold as much heat once air begins to flow through it.
