The RC Fabrication Legacy Toyota Heavy-Duty Spindle Gusset Kit was developed for owners who have pushed these older Toyota platforms beyond what the factory spindle was originally designed to handle.
Larger tires, long-travel suspension, harder off-road use, and increased vehicle weight can place considerably more load on the factory spindle and upper ball-joint area. Traditional spindle gussets reinforce portions of the upright, but customers are still experiencing bent spindles—even on trucks already equipped with conventional weld-on gussets.
RC Fabrication developed the Legacy Toyota kit to take spindle reinforcement significantly further.
Rather than simply adding reinforcement to one side of the factory spindle, this system wraps around and fully boxes the spindle structure, creating a much more rigid assembly while retaining the OEM spindle as the foundation.
Why Fully Boxed?
Most traditional spindle gussets reinforce only selected areas of the factory upright.
The Legacy Toyota kit uses multiple interlocking plates to create a boxed structure around the OEM spindle, reinforcing the spindle from multiple directions rather than relying on a single flat gusset.
The goal is simple:
Provide substantially greater spindle reinforcement while maintaining the cost and serviceability advantages of the OEM spindle.

Keyed Assembly System
The Legacy Toyota gussets aren't simply a collection of loose plates.
Keyways and locating tabs are incorporated throughout the assembly to help position the individual pieces correctly before welding.
The components are designed to index into one another, helping simplify assembly and maintain alignment during installation.

Developed From the Spindle Out
This project started with the OEM spindle itself.
The spindle was digitally modeled, the reinforcement structure was designed around the factory geometry, and multiple CAD revisions were completed before physical prototypes were produced.
The initial laser-cut and bent prototype was then tack-assembled directly onto an OEM spindle to verify:
- Plate alignment
- Spindle casting fitment
- Upper ball-joint reinforcement
- Brake-caliper clearance
- Factory component clearance
- Overall boxed construction
Only after physical fitment was confirmed was the larger production run authorized.
Built for Hard-Use Toyota IFS Platforms
This kit is intended for vehicles running combinations such as:
- Larger tires
- Long-travel suspension
- Aftermarket upper control arms
- Upgraded steering systems
- Desert and high-speed off-road use
- Trail and rock use
- Heavier off-road builds
It is also an option for owners who simply want substantially more reinforcement than a conventional spindle-gusset design provides.

Individual laser-cut and formed components are supplied ready for fabrication and welding.
OEM spindles are not included.
Installation
Professional welding and fabrication experience is required.
The factory spindle must be properly prepared before installation, and the gusset components must be correctly positioned and welded using appropriate procedures.
Because improper welding can distort or damage steering and suspension components, RC Fabrication strongly recommends installation by an experienced off-road fabricator or qualified welding professional.
After installation, all steering, suspension, brake, wheel, and tire clearances should be verified throughout the complete suspension and steering range of motion.
Important Fitment Note
Vehicle modifications vary considerably.
Actual tire clearance depends on several factors, including:
- Wheel width and offset
- Tire manufacturer and true measured tire size
- Suspension configuration
- Upper control arms
- Steering components
- Brake configuration
A stated tire size alone does not guarantee clearance.
The RC Fabrication Approach
The goal wasn't to make another spindle gusset.
The goal was to create a reinforcement system that closes the gap between a conventional weld-on gusset and the significantly higher cost of a completely fabricated spindle.
